How to become a
(in less than 10 steps) ?
1. “MULTITASKING” is NOT working :
Do you feel like you can multitask? Ok, let’s rephrase it. Do you feel like you can multitask AND be efficient? Let’s be honest. Students tend to multitask their studies with irrelevancies, things that will distract their attention from academics. Well, it will just distract you from being a successful student. Sorry. Moreover, studies have shown that multitasking is physically impossible and also serve as an unnecessary distraction to students. Things are expected to be done one after another for perfection. Step by step is the key to be a successful student. If you work on your computer, try to close any tablet that is not useful for your studies as it might distract you from it.
2. Make Plans:
Any successful student would tell you about it. Make plans. This is the first step of management and the most important of all, it shows how dedicated you are to a task and its the next step after that is organizing. Talking about getting organized, make a plan for what you’re going to do, how you are going to do it, and when you’re going to do it. This makes it very sure that you’re always ahead and on track.
Maybe you will feel the need to pour your plan on a piece of paper and stick it to your room. It might not be the prettiest decoration but at least.. you will not be able to forget it.
Making a study plan is tricky.
3. Split your study habit:
Being studious is not very easy. Any professional who has been a successful student will say so. Forcing yourself to study for a very long time tirelessly will only make it worse for you and might even prompt procrastination due to overstress. Hence, dividing your works into sections and rewarding yourself when you finish each section will make studying (more) fun for you. A successful student works with cool steps. Instead of a marathon and you tend to cover more than expected.
We wrote another article about good study habits. If you have any other subject you might be curious to know about it. Don’t hesitate to tell us about it.
4. Study yourself and set-up a schedule for reading:
Check yourself properly.
- Do you work better in the day, early in the morning, or at midnight after everyone must have gone to sleep?
- Ask yourself also, can you spend more than an hour reading or half-hour an hour? Many people don’t have the ability to read for long, hence, they tend to get tired of the whole thing. Find a reading schedule that works for you, and stick to it.
That way will help to build your reading habit, as study habits. Knowing yourself will help you to become a successful student.
5. Make sure to take important notes down:
Having a study pad and taking notes will not only keep you more engaged during class. But will also help you narrow down what you need to study when exam time rolls around. Trust us, no successful student does it without a notepad. Simple study habits.
It’s much easier to revise your notes than to review your entire textbook! Another importance is that it helps you to always go back to what you have been taught because there, you will jot down some important things the teacher must have said during an explanation that is not in your notes.
Try to make your notes as organized as possible. even visually if possible. Use different colors for titles and key concepts. Visual memory also works. That’s a trick we got from a successful student a long time ago!
This one is a must-do for every student, but did you know that there are a right and wrong way of study habits?
Use the method of ‘’2S’Q’3R’’ (Survey, Study, Question, Read, Revise, and Review) as study habits. 100% successful student trick assured. Review your material several days ahead of time even before the test or exam. Read with a small jotter (for example, write down keywords from what you have learned so that it makes it so easy for you to read next time and the next thing to do is to take practice tests).
In other words, you try to see if what you have learned has stuck to your head and that you have memorized it, i.e. don’t cram ( learning everything by heart without understanding it). A successful student not only learns but understand. So he can explain it to someone else later. Put it as a daily study habit.
Over the years science has proven that having enough sleep helps to boost human reasoning. Don’t underestimate the importance of those eight hours of sleep every night! Getting a good night’s rest will sharpen your focus and help improve your working memory. Of course, it is tempting to cut the sleeping time when exams are approaching. But it is never a good idea. Nor a study habits. Any successful student will recommend you to sleep. your brain needs it’s time off. Furthermore, avoid drinking energy drinks in the evening or coffee which might let you unable to sleep properly. Turn off your phone at night as a study habit and let it away from your bed. Successful students sleep !!
8. Manage your study space:
Find a place where you will be able to maximize your productivity, look for places away from the television, noise, and other distractions. No sciences, you will not be a successful student by standing nearby the TV. Be it your local library or just the desk in your bedroom, just make sure you set aside a study space that you’ll want to spend time in, so has to make maximum use of your time.
Don’t hesitate to turn off your phone or avoid friends and family. Yeah, they will be irritated to not be able to use your time as much as they are used to. But you need to be clear with them: you have the right to focus on your own future. A lot of students don’t really interact with their family while they are preparing an exam and it is completely normal. you should not feel bad about it. It is the role of your family to understand and respect your decision.
If your house doesn’t offer quiet space, buy earplugs. It’s irritating to have them in your ear all day long but it will offer you peace. If not a construction headset will also do the job. An unexpected object for study habits!
9. Ask questions when necessary:
The purpose of your going to school is to learn, so why to hesitate to ask questions? don’t be afraid to do just that! Questions are amazing study habits. Asking for help from a teacher, a tutor or your friends is the surest way to make sure you truly understand the material and that you are good to go. Any successful student does it. If you feel uncomfortable asking questions in front of everyone, wait until the end of the course and go to talk to your teacher. They are always happy to help curious students.
Bonus: Find a study group:
Mingling with a group of intelligent people who are learning the same things as you or are learning in the same field with you, is a great way to go over confusing class material or prepare for a big test. You can conduct quiz among each other, re-teach material, and make sure that everyone is on the same page. Sound like a fun study habit? Moreover, teaching someone else is the best way to learn.
Although this step looks like the nicest of the list. It is also the trickiest study habit. It is easy to lose focus on a group of people. Some people like to make dramas out of nothing and can get you out of your focus. If you feel like you’ve met the right people and working as a group helps. Then do so. But a successful student can also be a student working alone. Follow your own path. Any study habits that feel good for you will be helpful.
